Here is my most recent project- the Thymes Square Quilt made from a kit that was given to me by a sweet, dear friend of mine– Thank YOU!!!! It is my first quilt using many Kaffe Fassett fabrics – and hopefully not my last! I used Ricky Tims’ technique for the piped border from his DVD Grand Finale, which I borrowed from the same sweet, dear friend 🙂

Charity Quilts for 2008

Charity Quilts for 2008

Every year our church takes a load of Christmas presents to a church in Tiajuana, Mexico. I enjoy packing up several of these, hoping to make the Christmas celebration a little more special for some of the children there. Last year, I got the idea to include some of the quilts I had made that hadn’t found a home yet. This year, I was more purposeful in making the quilts.

I enjoy the process of creating quilts, yet I don’t necessarily have a need for them, so being able to make them for these children works out well for me. I can try out new techniques, get loads of practice on skills, and still have a finished product that is useful for someone.

The quilt that I made in a day….

Since my last post was about a project that took forever….. I thought I would post about today’s project that I finished in a day….
A couple of weeks ago my husband made an off-hand comment that one of his co-workers is expecting. Now everyone who knows me knows that I love to make baby blankets, so I responded that I would make her a blanket and I made a mental note to myself to start on her blanket after the holidays. Then last night, my husband tells me that the Baby Shower is today and asks me if I have finished the blanket! Yikes! Drop everything! I am going to my sewing room!
Luckily I have a large fabric stash, because there was no time to go shopping. From start to finish- 17 hours and that includes some sleep, not much, but some…..

Now all I have left to do is wrap it and give it…. and take a nap 🙂
Phew!

International Quilt Festival, Long Beach

We had a wonderful time at the International Quilt Festival! So much to see- so much to buy! Over 500 booths! You really could go crazy in a place like this. We didn’t get to see everything- I think you would need at least a week to visit all the vendors. It was great fun to meet the quilt shop owners and see all of their fabulous kits in person- they are so much more beautiful in person. You literally couldn’t decide between all of the gorgeous fabrics. There were many inspirational quilts-crazy quilts, thread painting, perfect applique, stunning bold color combinations- I think I now have about 20 quilts swimming around in my head. I can’t wait to go back again next year!
